Hello and a hearty welcome to our dear readers. We decided to dedicate a section of our blog to us, so you know who is behind this new Birmingham travel website. We want to tell you more about our lives and how we got to the point of creating a blog dedicated to the magnificent City of a Thousand Trades.
So, Who Are We Exactly
Let’s start off by giving you the bad news – no, we are not Brummies. We weren’t born or raised here, and yet we call Birmingham our home. We hope this wasn’t a turn off for you, because we still see ourselves as experts on going around town, so we can tell you some cool places to perhaps have you on our non-Brummie side.
Jokes aside, we are a couple that moved from Canterbury to Birmingham all the way back in 2008. We are high school sweethearts who decided to stay together and go to the same university. And yes, we know that Canterbury University was right there. Although student life in Canterbury is very lively, we wanted to see what it’s like to live in a big city for once.
We were already pretty familiar with London, so we wanted to try out something new and applied to Birmingham University. Luckily, we both got in and we found a chic (and affordable) little flat in the heart of the city.
We were shell-shocked at first, because although we’ve been to London many times, we still didn’t have an idea as to what living in a big city would be like. We started frequenting the pubs our Brummie classmates went to, but we were also eager to find places of our own.
We began exploring every bit of the city and we are confident to say that even after almost 15 years, we haven’t seen every street corner (as we would have liked to). Birmingham is the City of a Thousand Trades and the City of a Thousand places to visit.
Once we graduated, we were both decided to stay here and start a life. After all, it’s the second biggest city in the UK, so the opportunities were endless and we were excited to follow all of them. Now, 14 years later, we are firmly settled here, but we keep falling in love with the city over and over again each time we go out to explore it.
Why We Made This Blog
If this love poem wasn’t enough for you to find out why we made this blog, then we don’t know what will! Just kidding. We made the blog mostly for our younger selves who were constantly getting lost trying to find something in the era before mobile internet was big.
Times have changed, but it doesn’t hurt to have a guide made specifically to help you find the most iconic places in a city. This is what we were trying to achieve with our blog. Since thousands of students go to Birmingham every year, much like us, we thought it would be good if they had recommendations for places to visit.
Thank You
Let’s finish our little exposition by thanking you, the reader, for being here! We are very excited to start this blog and we are even more excited to hear your opinion of it. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any ideas about how to make our blog better.
Thank You!
